Use a unique identifier for participants
Identify participants with a membership, employee, customer, student, or other organization-specific ID.
Add a Unique Identifier field
Use Unique Identifier when participants should be recognized by an organization-specific value instead of, or alongside, an email address or phone number.
Common examples include membership numbers, employee IDs, customer IDs, student IDs, and account references.
- Open the promotion builder and select Form.
- Under Form Fields, add Unique Identifier.
- Write a label, placeholder, and help text that explain the expected value.
- Decide whether the field is required.
- Under Validation, customize the error message, select a validation pattern, and set minimum or maximum character lengths when needed.
- Under Advanced, set the width, hidden state, or Field ID.
Choose the validation rules
The validation pattern can accept letters only, numbers only, or letters and numbers. Character limits control the shortest and longest accepted values.
Describe those rules in the label or help text. For example, tell participants whether to include leading zeroes, prefixes, spaces, or punctuation. Do not configure a format that conflicts with the IDs your organization actually issues.
Use it as a primary identifier
Email, Phone, and Unique Identifier are Revup's primary participant identifiers. A promotion must retain at least one of those fields, so adding Unique Identifier allows Email or Phone to be removed when they are not needed.
Unique identifiers are matched without regard to letter case. Treat them as participant data, but not as passwords or secret authentication credentials. If access must be restricted to an approved code list, use the Passcodes field instead.
Before publishing, test valid, invalid, minimum-length, and maximum-length examples and confirm the values are understandable in participant records and exports.
